NONPROFIT COMMUNICATIONS
I had the pleasure of being the One Person comms shop for the Continental Divide Trail Coalition. This was a wonderful opportunity to be the voice of the lead nonprofit partner for my favorite National Scenic Trail. (No one tell the AT!) I had the chance to work the program from the ground up as its first standalone Communications Manager. From social media and email management, to press relations, to partnership work with affinity and equity orgs in the outdoors, to a complete overhaul of the website, styles, and all magazine and annual publications, it was a fantastic experience. Here are a few selected highlights.
Website Redesign
I project-managed the complete overhaul of the rickety old website, that had been held together with string and wishful thinking. With the wonderful team at ThompsonStenning, we brought new usability to a tangled old mess to highlight all the great ways to get involved with the CDT.
Trail Days
The main in-person event (or online during the Pandemic years) for the Continental Divide Trail Coalition is Trail Days in Silver City, New Mexico. The identity redesign was extrapolated out to many products and formats.
Pride on the Divide
I illustrated and initiated the first CDTC Pride on the Divide celebration.
Passages Magazine
From the ground up, I redesigned, wrote, photoedited and edited the triennial Passages magazine. Which fortunately did mean I had plenty of leeway to talk about some of my favorite topics from Trail Towns!
Whether it was a report on CDTC’s activities for Congress or an annual report for small donors or a survey of how the outdoor recreation economy impacted trail towns, I rethought how the work of the CDTC was communicated to audiences.
